A selection of my personal photographic projects over the years.

My style has naturally shifted with time — in both subject matter and technique — but one thing has stayed the same: I’m drawn to moments, people, and places that feel singular.

Nostalgia has always been a quiet undercurrent in my life. Photography has become a small, personal way of leaning into that feeling. It lets me linger a bit longer; helps me make peace with time.

ASIA DENISE SHELTON
Anthology Series

Asia is one of the most unique people I know. A tapestry woven from threads of intelligence and sensitivity, her gaze reflects a profound awareness of the world’s delicate dance.

Asia sees the beauty in the mundane and the extraordinary, drawing my attention to the things that often go unnoticed. Her ability to connect deeply with the great things around her, reminds me that there’s so much more beneath the surface.  She’s what I like to call a good navigator—someone who can read people easily and pick up on the mood of a room. Over the years, our relationship has been a mix of push and pull, but we always find our way back to that middle ground, ending up laughing about something simple.

Sometimes my excitement about certain things sends me into a kind of tunnel vision, where I get so caught up that I forget to consider others. It’s never out of bad intent, but I know it can come across as selfish. Over the years, Asia has often been the one to call me out when that happens: an alarm reminding me to look up and pay attention. Thanks to her infinite patience, I’ve become more aware of my own blind spots, and I’m still learning (little by little) to be a better version of myself.  She reads me like an open book, knowing the rhythm of my moods before I say a word. Asia’s patience through all my flaws and restless moments has been nothing short of extraordinary, making me surrender to her with my humble respect.

Asia moves through life with a strange rhythm: elegant and composed one moment, wild and electric the next. During our impromptu photoshoots, she meets every idea with patience and a spark that keeps things alive. I’ve never taken that for granted. There’s something unpredictable about her energy, like she’s always half a step ahead of the frame.  She’s always had a natural creative instinct, with an eye for photography that feels honest, unfiltered, and quietly intimate. Watching her work reminded me to strip away the excess in my own approach, to let things breathe, and to bring back the raw and human aspect of film.

Her wit and charm, feel for history, and effortless taste give the impression that Asia was meant for another world  — one of velvet curtains and opera balconies. She has that quiet refinement you read about in Jane Austen novels, the kind that reveals its depth in the smallest gestures: the lift of an eyebrow, the cadence of a sentence... There’s something regal about her.

Together we’ve wandered through Chicago, Los Angeles, and Italy, and no matter where we were, she had a way of commanding the space without ever trying to. Her presence lingers in my memory of those places, as much a part of the landscape as the cities themselves. She remains a defining figure in the story of my life, someone whose gravitas keeps revealing itself with time. I look forward to photographing her again and again, to try (once more) to capture that elusive, unspoken energy that seems to follow her everywhere.
